Broiler (think chicken marked for the meat supply) hatchability (think eggs that survive incubation to produce chicks) has done more than wobble over the last few months. Readers will notice that hatchability started to improve compared to the five-year average last summer. But since mid-January, hatchability has plummeted more so than normal and is now essentially even with prior year. Disease issues are to blame which will impact the broiler supply at least in the near term.
This could have a significant impact on chicken prices in the coming months. To learn more how Datum FS serves clients to help them anticipate and manage commodity volatility click the "Email us" button above.
