Chicken's Free Fall

So what could stop the recent slide in chicken breast markets? History says… not much in the near term. For 12 years straight, boneless skinless breast prices have averaged lower in October compared to September. It’s as reliable as Bill Belichick in a hoodie.

Longer term, though? Totally different game. Protein consumption overall — and especially chicken — is trending up like WNBA attendance. This year, per-capita beef, pork, and chicken consumption is projected to rise 0.4% to a new record, with chicken nearly carrying half the load. For those keeping score at home (and you know I got you): per-capita chicken consumption is up 16% in the past decade. That’s dynasty-level growth.
