Olive oil has had quite a season over the last few years. For those keeping score, and it sure is fun to do so this time of the year with WNBA and MLB playoffs, and the NFL, NHL and NBA getting started, olive oil import prices have risen nearly 3x since bottoming in the spring of 2020. The culprit has been smaller world production. Both the 2022/23 and 2023/24 crop years saw the smallest olive oil output since the New York Yankees won their 25th World Series title in 1999. As the chart above shows, the USDA is estimating 2024/25 olive oil output to rise 22 (think David Eckstein...Go Gators) percent, but it would still be the third smallest in the last eight years.
