Speaking of keeping score, this week's quarterly earnings call from Tyson did a good job of doing so. Protein producers continue to struggle with margins and consumers are looking for value with chicken sale volumes on the rise. Given the challenged margins for producers, there remain signs that output will be limited in the coming months. The USDA suggested so last week with their monthly protein production update. Readers will notice that total protein output in the U.S. is expected to track below prior year levels at least through Q2 of 2024.
