Ethanol Again?

Giving grains a nudge this week was news out of Washington, as the Trump Administration voiced support for nationwide E15 fuel. Not surprisingly, farm groups have been lobbying hard amid declining margins for row-crop producers (funny what lower corn, wheat, and soybean prices will do, eh?). As the chart above shows, corn used for ethanol has been fairly range-bound for well over a decade—something grain markets, and downstream protein and dairy markets, have largely adjusted to. Nationwide E15? That could change the math. Just sayin’.
