Restaurant menu price inflation cooling but...
Overall consumer inflation, which was released earlier this week for February, has been relatively stubborn. The overall consumer price index for February was up 6 percent from prior year which is historically high. Optimists will point out that running six month inflation is only tracking at 2.1 percent while others may call out that two year inflation is still tracking 14 (think: Paul Konerko) plus above two years ago. Menu price inflation has been stubborn too up 8.4 percent from 2022 for foodservice as a whole. And although the running six-month inflation for menu prices is easing it is not doing so as much as overall inflation or grocery store prices.
